We’re thrilled to be part of the Long Eaton Carnival 2017

7th June 2017

For more information, book a call with us

In conjunction with Vibez Danceworks, we’re thrilled to be involved and support this year’s Long Eaton Carnival on Saturday 17th June 2017. With not long to go, we’re very excited and can’t wait to see what Vibez have up their sleeve, as we know they have put a considerable amount of hard work during practice sessions, ensuring they’re ready for their performance during the day.

What is the Long Eaton Carnival?

The Carnival has a very long and interesting history dating back to the 1930’s. The Carnival is organised every year by a group of volunteers called the Long Eaton Community Carnival Association. The event consists of a road parade through the streets of Long Eaton, followed by a range of different displays and events at West Park.

Timings:

  • 11am – parade begins
  • 12:30pm/1pm – parade arrives back at the Carnival site
  • 1pm – carnival officially starts

What is their objective behind the event?

The primary objective of the association is to organise an event which involves all sections of the community and help to encourage community spirit. Those of you who have already attended, we’re sure you’ll agree that there is definitely a great community spirit during the yearly carnivals?!

Did you know the Carnival is FREE?

The Carnival is free to attend and every year attracts thousands of visitors, meaning there is a real great buzz and atmosphere – if you’re looking for an event for the whole family, we promise that this is it!

Pete Smith, Chairman of the Long Eaton Community Carnival Association, when interviewed by the Nottingham Post said,

“You get hooked on it and you can’t seem to get out of it. When it has been wet and windy, we still get thousands come along and with some sun on Saturday we’re hoping it will be a very good turn-out.”

How RDG will be getting involved…

This year we are proud to be sponsoring Vibez Danceworks float. On the day you will see our team during the parade, unfortunately not dancing with the Vibez dancers, but handing out goodies to attendees. Who knows, if you cheer loud enough, Director Katrina may do a Cabaret routine of some sort…

We’re also running not one but two competitions… we know, we spoil you too much…

Competition 1 – we’ll be handing out postcards with a competition on the back – simply answer the question by dropping us an email and be in with the chance of getting your hands on a £50 M&S Voucher!

Competition 2 – after the parade, at West Park, we will be asking people to guess how many sweets there are in the jar. The person who guesses closest to the actual number will get their hands on the whole jar of sweets… yes the whole jar!

Fingers crossed all the sweets will fit…

This years theme…

Every year the association vote and decide on a theme and this year the movies are coming to the carnival this year. So dig out your best costume and start practising your best movie star impressions! We wonder what Russell, director of RDG, will be dressing up as?

*Competition time!* In conjunction with this year’s theme, the Long Eaton Chamber of Trade are running a competition which runs until the 16th June 2017.

  • 1st prize £25 voucher
  • 2nd prize £15 voucher
  • 3rd prize £10 voucher

To enter and find out more information, download the competition form from their site… good luck…

Road closures

For the Carnival to take place some of the roads around Long Eaton where the parade will take place will be closed. Erewash council have mapped out which roads will be effected on their road closure guide.

Photos from past years

Over on the Long Eaton Carnival website, they have a gallery section, where you will be able to find photos from past years… who doesn’t love a throwback?

Tombola time

Long Eaton Swimming Club will be doing a Tombola during the event! They are asking for some donations – so if you have any birthday, Christmas or any other occasion presents still untouched, why not give them to a good home. We’re donating something… as we do love a old school Tombola!

Can’t make the Carnival?

Can’t make the Carnival? Whilst it will be a shame not seeing you there, why not follow us on Twitter and Facebook, as we will posting regular updates throughout the day!

Alternatively, the Erewash council have kindly put a calendar together with similar events going on in and around Long Eaton.
